With full Internet access, the player's Opera browser plug-in offers Adobe Flash support, which lets you access and enjoy YouTube and other Web video sites on your Archos device. By using the player, you can view and post YouTube videos wherever you are with an active wireless connection. In addition to downloading media straight from the Archos content portal, you can stream and watch videos from your home PC or laptop. For added video playback versatility, the player is compatible with MPEG4, AVI, and WMV video files. The player features robust music playback features, too. On-board music file playback capabilities support MP3, CBR, VBR, WMA, protected WMA, and WAV files. To help round out the player's multimedia superiority, the Archos even comes with photo viewing capabilities. JPEG, BMP, and PNG files are 100 percent compatible with the player, and the player can pull up PDFs for portable review -- an ideal means to take bigger documents or e-books in PDF format on the road with you. Because of the Archos's USB 2.0 compatibility, files can be quickly transferred to the device in the absence of a Wi-Fi network connection. Charging the device can also be accomplished with an active USB connection. An AC adapter is sold separately for additional charging options. Other great features include mass storage capabilities, automatic firmware downloads, and a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack. New Free Widget Pack
Archos has launched a new widget pack that is free for the 605. A widget is a piece of software that adds new features to your player. It gives you fun, quick, and easy access to hundreds of tools, right on the device. The package contains seven widgets, including a calculator, a currency converter, a unit converter, news, weather, a note writer, and a data vault. To be able to use the widgets, you need to purchase the Web Browser plug-in (about $30). Then, you can download the free widget pack via Archos.com.

Please read some reviews on the internet BEFORE considering this product.... or anything made by ARCHOS They NO LONGER offer a program guide, which made it a stand out among its competitors. They do not know if it will be re-instated. They are a difficult company to work with at best. If you have ANY tech problems which can happen with these small electronics there is no service.. NONE.. if you want help with anything you will have to pay!! They have such great ideas in theory... but nothing stands behind these products.... I am not pleased with this product and see that they are still listing it with a program guide..It does not exist.. and according to customer service today.. may never again. I guess my next move is to... *gulp* an Ipod.....

I have wasted my money buy this piece of junk. I have it repaired within 6 months. Battery won't charged. Hard Drive Frozen, erratic screen dispay, poor FLV support, etc. i am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with this product and the company as a whole. Don't buy it. You will be sorry it you do.

Not bad for the price I paid for it nice features holds a lot of music files still trying and having some trouble down recording movies was only able to successfully record one movie you,ll need the dvr dock that. And that was from a vcr movie qaulity came out great but one down fall is it only recorded in mono for some reason I dont know if it was because of the way I it connected to the vcr or what.After recording the movie I tried to record another one had sound and but no picture same thing when trying to record from a dvd player.
But other than that I like it for my music collection that I have the speakers are not that great but when using earbuds they sound great I use a aux speaker with mine when I dont use the earbuds which works fine it depends on what you are lookng for but it suits my needs. One more thing shipping came very fast I had gotting both items within a fews days after I ordered them.

I owned a 604 for a couple years. It crapped out once and I had a horrible experience with customer where I RMAd my system and they sent it back to me without fixing it. Eventually it got sorted out though.
I went back to Archos when my system died for the second time. The 604 was discontinued so I bought a 605. I love it.
The thing is there isn't anything in these reviews I don't agree with - both the positive and negative reviews. It's pretty crappy that they charge for the plug ins. And sometimes, they break and customer service is terrible.
But for the price, esp today (the 30GB is a STEAL at it's current price...I am considering picking another one up just 'cause).
All said, if you like to watch movies and want to be able to check the internet (it's not really designed for that so the ability is just bonus) then this is a great device.

Having owned an Archos 402 Gimni that never gave me any problems, I chose to upgrade to the Archos 605 80gb WIFI. BIG BIG MISTAKE. The battery died within 6 months of purchase, and Archos will not honour their manufacturers warranty (allegedly 12 months) to replace it. You have to buy 'add-ons' to get the cursed thing to play most common video and music files.
I am very disappointed with this effort from Archos, especially their very poor attitude in relation to accepting responsibility for the poor workmanship of the 605. If I want the battery replaced, I am expected (at my own cost) to sent the 605 back to France where a 'technician' will look at it and then provide me with a quote for repairs.
Their customer service is rubbish, and as soon as they realise you want them to take responsibility and fix the Archos you have purchased from them, they stop sending e-mails to you in English and start sending them in French. They accused me of mishandling my device even though I have treated it with kid gloves. How they make this assumption is beyond me when you consider that I have not even sent it back to them.
When the 605 was working, and I had installed the add-ons, it worked well and I was very happy with it. I ceased to be happy with it when the battery died after only 6 months, and Archos customer service refused to fix it.
My message to you - heed the warnings that others have posted here. Don't be fooled by the flashy advertising or over-inflated hype. You would be better served with one of the new portable DVD players (that also play avi and mp4 formats), or a netbook/laptop.
