Looks Nice, Feels Nice, Remote "Disabled" July 9, 2010 T. Wong (Arizona, USA) I have not yet tried video out with this, as I purchased it for use in my car (usb>lighter adapter, and aux>car deck). It seems to charge, and work as supposed to. Two things about the wireless remote:
1)I actually found out that it controls a friends laptop (and media center), by mistake(discussed in #2). It would scroll the browser, and start media center, etc. It was pretty limited around windows, but worked nice in windows media center.
2)While using the zune hd in the dock, the directional buttons DO NOT work while not using video out (i do not know if they work with video out on, but that is what I read in a [...] forum here: [...] By that, i mean you can't control the menus at all while not using video out. The only menu button that works is "home". Instead, the directional buttons act as a double for music control (vol up/down, skip/back). I found out the directional buttons worked with the laptop because I connected the dock to the computer and tried to try the buttons again. This is why i list the remote as "disabled", because a design decision limits it functionality.
The range on the remote seems decent for my purposes, but I have not tested its full range. All-in-all, I only have a problem with the directional buttons not working while a zune hd is not in video out. Everything else is nice.
Does the Job June 18, 2010 Texanman (Texas) Don't like the price but picked it up anyways. HD videos look great on my 24in LCD monitor but standard Definition videos look horrible.... if your just going to use it for that I would avoid this..but has a desktop dock with video playback, it works
Works great June 13, 2010 Daniel Rivero (Venezuela) It works great. You can use it as a media center if you have the HDMI cable and a TV set with the HDMI input. The quality of the video is A+ if the video is properly coded. It also comes with a cable that works as an antenna which improves radio reception. In general, it's a good investiment, I want to use it in my car but I haven't had the time yet to do so, the remote control is going to make everything easier at the moment of changing the songs while driving.
Barely adequate for 1080p TVs June 9, 2010 G. Grevemberg If you have a 1080p TV, the output from this is going to look terrible. Text, album covers, artist images and videos will look subpar at best. Even a 1080p video synced on the device will look bad on your TV. I'm guessing it might look better to encode the video down to 720p, as the zune/TV wouldn't be upsampling, but I haven't tried it. If you're looking to use this dock for outputting to your 1080p, consider hooking your laptop to your TV and running the zune software on it instead. It will be high resolution with the added benefit of being infinitely more functional.
Some of this is to be expected with upsampling, I guess, but I didn't expect it to look this bad. Especially not the menu text.
Zune Dock June 5, 2010 Jeffrey Lemire (Concord, NH USA) The docking station is a great buy if you want an easy way to watch shows and play music on your television. Bought a simple HDMI cable for a couple bucks and was good to go.
