Disclosure: I use primarily Wintel at work and Linux at home, and a Mac Mini occasionally.
This is a delayed review of my experience from 2008/2009.
I heard many good things about the iPod Touch and decided to give it a try.
It worked well for checking email, browsing internet, good but not great experience.
Synching apps with laptop was annoying, synching email/calender with both google and
yahoo even more annoying. Unable to play flash-based video the most annoying of all.
I did not buy any songs from the iTunes store due to poor fidelity, symphonies and operas simply do not play well on portable devices.
Free apps are the best feature of the platform.
Then I went hiking with it and an HTC smartphone and got caught in a light rain.
I powered down both devices immediately and dried them out.
The HTC device work perfectly after restating(took out and dried the battery as a precaution).
The iPod Touch overheated- there was no way to take out the battery without voiding the warranty.
I decided to take it to an Apple Store to get it fixed or replaced.
Bad sign- need to make a reservation to see a "Genius" at the "Genius Bar" and the next "appointment" is 3 days away.
To make a long story short, it was fried and could not be saved. The Idiot said the warranty was null because of "water damage."
Moreover, he was "shocked" that I did not put a protector on it.
I told him that it was a tool to be used, not a pet to be spoiled,
and that it was a bad design decision to seal in the battery.
But there was no arguing with a cultist. I did managed to get a refund, from Costco.
Verdict - YMMV, but this is an overpriced, flawed product to me.
Would have given it 3 stars but for the customer service, or lack thereof.
Never buy anything from Apple Store, buy it from a retailer if you must.

I Bought My Ipod Touch 32gb About 2 Week's Ago And I Love It, It Does Everything I Got It For And More I Love The App's You Can Put On It All The Game's And Stuff, Im A Rapper And It Get's Real Busy And Stressful So It's Cool To Kick Back After A Show And Just Listen To My Ipod I LOVE IT, So I Give It A 5 Star's

I bought this for my cousin, she loved it. I haven't heard any complaints so far and she had it for almost a year already.
BUT! A week after I got it from Amazon, the Apple store dropped their prices (BOOO!) :(

I waited a little while before I invested in an ipod even though I had been talking about getting one for a while. A family member has the 8gb and says that it wasn't enough for her, so I knew it wouldn't be for me either. The 32gb was more than I needed, so I was happy when I found a 16gb on this website. So far, this is one of the best purchases I have ever made!
