Thumbwheel sticks April 21, 2010 Susana Gonzalez-davis I bought the Sansa Fuze 4gb and w/in 2 weeks of purchase (refurbished by [...]) the thumbwheel is getting stuck and won't move. While charging, the thumbwheel works. I disconnect it and it gets stuck. What is going on?
Very Durable April 20, 2010 R. Asay (utah) All I can say is "WOW!" about this little machine. I bought it for my 9 year old son for Christmas 2009. He has abused this little mp3 player. It still looks great. The latest abuse came from being left in his pocket and going through the washer and dryer. When he found it in his pocket he was devastated knowing that there is no way it could still work. He turned it on and it worked perfectly without a problem. It has now been a month since the laundry incident and still no problems. If you are looking for durability, ease of use, and an allover great mp3 go with this one.
Great product April 19, 2010 ohsoblu82 I love my Sansa! I'm glad i didnt pay $150 and up for an Ipod, cause this is just as good. It fits in my purse and I can take it everywhere. For added memory just buy a micro sd card.
Sansa Fuze 4GB April 16, 2010 Joel Tunnah (Brooklyn, NY) Firmware:
02.02.26A
It's a stable player, no crashes or freezes yet. Syncing via WMP, and transferring files manually, all work smoothly in XP SP3.
Audio:
Listening to 320kbps mp3's through my Sony MDR-V6 headphones, the Fuze has a somewhat constrained stereo image, and poor separation between instruments. Bass is a little bit muddy. The EQ presets are pretty awful sounding. Overall I'm not into the sound.
However, as an affordable audiobook player it's great, with Audible AAX "e" file support out of the box.
Interface:
The interface is unsexy, dated, and unremarkable in how you navigate it. On the plus side it's intuitive and simple.
Controls:
The clickwheel is a little cheap feeling, but it works fine, and is a nice addition on a small low-cost player. The Home button to the right of the clickwheel is useful: it takes you to the main menu, and then back to the current song if clicked again. A Hold button seperate from the power switch would have been nice. Sometimes I turn the unit off by mistake.
Video:
Sansa is kind enough to preload a demo video on the Fuze so you can see for yourself how awful the quality is and never bother with this feature again.
FM:
Works good, and sounds good. It pulls in stations here in NY pretty well, with minimal static. Lots of preset slots, and you have the option of an auto search which makes a preset of every available station it picks up.
I don't use anything else on the player, including the microSD slot, so I won't mention them.
Summary:
The price, build quality, size, aax support, and controls are good; but they need to redesign the interface, and improve the audio performance to take this player out of the 3-star range.
A good music player, but below expectations April 14, 2010 bbzippo 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I just got the Fuze from Amazon a few hours ago, so this is a first impression review.
Overall, this is a good music player.
Pros:
+ Good sound quality. I previously owned Cowon and Creative players, and I'd say the Fuze is on par with those brands.
+ Good usability, intuituve controls, mostly.
+ Build quality and materials feel pleasant to touch and look durable.
+ The included headphones are surprisingly good. I still recommend to get the inexpensive but superior Koss KSC75.
+ Nice screen.
+ FM radio.
+ Folders view.
Cons:
- Proprietary USB connector.
- Controls are not good enough for in-pocket use. You need to be looking at the player when you operate it. Yes, you can operate volume control, but pausing and skipping can't be done "blindfolded". This also makes it hard to use it in the car.
- No Video Conversion software included or provided by the vendor. Sandisk used to provide a media converter, but not anymore, apparently. So far I haven't figured out how to put my videos on the player and what exact formats, codecs, bitrates and framerates are supported. (see update below).
- No user manual included, only a quick start guide.
- Too heavy/bulky for a pocket audio player, too limited video capabilities for a video player.
UPDATE:
I have figured out how to get the Media Converter software from SanDisk. You first need to download Sansa Firmware Updater which can be found in the Driver Download section on [...]. Then you need to start the Updater with your player plugged in and let it check for updates. It will find 2 updates: the Media Converter and the User Manual.
